By far, I’ve never came across of anything more convenient than HostelWorld and really if you are crazily looking for hassle-free place to stay for your travel, this is the site to visit. From the search query I made for Amsterdam, the lowest price for a really shoe-string hostel budget is as low as 15euro/nite and I think that’s a real catch if budget traveling is the way you travel of course.
